Education and Teaching
Education¶
PhD, Computational Science¶
University of Jyväskylä (2024)

Title of my PhD thesis: Enhancing the decision-support capabilities of interactive multiobjective optimization with explainability. The thesis was supervised by Prof. Kaisa Miettinen and Dr. Bekir Afsar. In my thesis, I explore the concept of explainability, inspired by explainability in explainable artificial intelligence, when applied to interactive multiobjective optimization methods to better support decision makers.
MSc, Computer Science¶
University of Jyväskylä (2020)

I completed my masters specializing in computational science. My master's thesis was supervised by Prof. Kaisa Miettinen and Dr. Jussi Hakanen. In my thesis, I implemented a new kind of interactive multiojective optimization methods, which is able to learn a preference model of a decision maker during an interactive process. I applied belief rule-based systems as a machine learning model to learn the preference model of a decision maker.
BSc, Physics¶
University of Jyväskylä (2016)
Link to thesis
I completed my bachelor of physics focusing on experimental underground physics. My bachelor thesis (written in Finnish) was supervised by Prof. Jouni Suhonen. In my thesis, I surveyed the ongoing experiments at the LNGS (Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso), which study the double beta-decay of various nuclei. I also compted the experimental upper limit of the neutrino based on the experiments' results.
Teaching¶
TIES5830: Course on Data-driven Optimization and Decision Making¶
Lecturer, University of Jyväskylä, 2024
I have prepared and gave lectures during the course related to data-driven interactive multiobjective optimization focusing on practical aspects and how to best support decision makers in tackling multiobjective optimization problems.
Physics Student Laboratory¶
Teaching Assistant, University of Jyväskylä, 2016 - 2024
I have worked as a teaching assistant in the student laboratory of the Physics Department of the University of Jyvsäskylä. I have supervised both bachelor and master level students in various kinds of physics experiments, which are part of different physics courses. I have also been the corresponding teacher in grading and supervising a larger laboratory assignment, where students must write a full report on a physics experiment and its results.
TIES598: Nonlinear Multiobjective Optimization Course¶
Lecturer, University of Jyväskylä, 2023
During the course, I prepared and delivered lectures on data-driven interactive multiobjective optimization. The focus was on practical applications and providing optimal support for decision makers in addressing multiobjective optimization challenges.
COM1: Interactive Multiobjective Optimization: Applications and Tools to Support Decision Making¶
Lecturer, The 31st Jyväskylä Summer School, University of Jyväskylä, 2022
During the two-week summer school course, I prepared and delivered two whole-day lectures on interactive multiobjective optimization. I was also a teacher in the practical sessions during the whole duration of the course, where we focused on utilizing the DESDEO framework to model and and solve multiobjective optimization problems.
Tools and best practices for scientific software development¶
Lecturer, University of Jyväskylä, 2022
I was a lecturer at a local CoreRefinery workshop at the University of Jyväskylä. During the course, we taught the course participants about practicalities and good practices when developing code, focusing especially on version control utilizing git, and collaborative software developing on GitHub.
Various introductory and advanced bachelor-level physics courses¶
Teaching Assistant, Lecturer, University of Jyväskylä, 2015 - 2020
Various physics courses. I have been working as a teaching assistant, occasionally as a lecturer as well, in around a dozen university physics courses, both at an introductory and at an advanced level.
